Kulinarya Festival at Bayview

Discover a destination where you get every single cent you pay back to your senses - exceptional value meets unmatched services and location. Discover Bayview Park Hotel - situated along the famous Roxas Boulevard in Manila. The winning factor of Bayview Park Hotel, is its Pinoy hospitality as evidenced by the welcoming smiles of the hotel staff.

Backed by 75-year history of unparalleled service, Bayview is one of the most sought-after hotels by leisure and business travelers. The great hotel accommodation gives you everything you need under one roof – affordable guestroom as well as excellent restaurants. Hospitable, dependable, modest, respected, distinguished – are the very characteristics of Bayview Park Hotel. Characteristics that endears this hotel to new and repeat clients.

Talking about restaurants, I, myself, am not into spicy cuisines. Nevertheless, even though I refrain from those, I just couldn’t hesitate and stop myself from dining when I was invited  for a lunch with guests and bloggers for the dry run of  Kulinarya Festival Program at Bayview ParkHotel which DOT and with some members of Hotel & Restaurant Association of the Philippines (HRAP) in promoting tourism. This “Kulinarya Festival” that will about to kick off on July 2011.

Serving Bicol Cuisine

Bicolano cuisine, noted by Filipinos as perhaps the most "incendiary" in the entire country, with their 3 magic dishes: sili (finger chili), pili nut, and gata (coconut milk). The region is known for its spicy dishes, most of which are cooked using gata. With the exception of the pili, both the sili and the gata play central roles in a popular dish that bears the name of the region.

During the dry run, they prepared Bicol Express(well known as laing), Adobong Manok sa Gata, Pinangat, Pansit Bato, Sinabawang Malaswang Isda and Ensaladang Lato. They also served crispy caramelled  Pili Nuts and Banana Chips and other delicacies such as the ever colorful and tasteful sapin-sapin, biko and ubi halaya.

Eating spicy  foods, considering that not all of the tourists and guests visiting the hotel, they make sure that the spiciness of the dishes is acceptable enough to their taste. They separate the extra chilies at the side for those who wanted their food more spicy and hot.

Though I am not spicy and gata-blend food lover, when eating what they served, it taste very good especially the Bicol Express. The combination of coconut milk, bagoong, and chili peppers creates a very distinctive flavor. It is really good. I enjoyed and couldn’t stop myself from dining.

HRAP members namely the Century Park Hotel, Discovery Suites, Café Illustrado, Bacolod Chicken Inasal and Serye Restaurant joined  the Kulinarya Festival on July 2011.

Here are the schedules of  the authentic Filipino dishes that will served on weekdays of July at Bayview Park Hotel. The buffet lunch cost only Php600 per head and for reservation, please call Bayview Park Hotel at 526 1555.

Fashionably You.

Ever wonder how certain people always look nice and you don't? It's because they're dressing fashionably and know how to look good! By following these steps, you can be on your way to having a fantastic, fashionable wardrobe.

Organize: Get out all your clothes and decide which ones you want and don't want. Donate, sell, or re-purpose anything that you haven't worn in a year (that isn't seasonal), doesn't fit or is plain ugly!

Flatter: Look at yourself in the mirror and as objectively as possible, pick things about your physical appearance you like and dislike. What do you want to disguise? What do you want to emphasize? What's your body type?

Style: What do you like? Do you want to incorporate trendy items into your wardrobe, or do you prefer a classic look? Spend time flipping through catalogs, or surfing websites that feature clothes. Do you even want to figure out a way to incorporate witty T-shirts, or is pleather more your style? There are tons of different pieces that will look phenomenal on you- what do you like?

Context: Where you live, where you go and what you do are major factors in dressing fashionably! If you wear a ballgown to the office that's not fashionable; if you wear a business suit to the prom, likewise. Think about what kind of clothing is appropriate for the things you're going to be doing.

Shop: The best thing to do is to buy long-lasting pieces that will retain their class throughout seasons. Fashion changes extremely quickly! Don't fill your wardrobe with things that won't be appropriate the same time next year, and don't spend a lot of money on fashion items. Think about step 4 again. What kinds of coats, jackets or sweaters do you need? Put this kind of information in the context of what flatters your body.

Shop more: Now that you've got the basics, it's time to have fun! Buy some great shoes, cute accessories and get a haircut! No need to go classic here unless that's your taste - handbags, shoes and jewelry is the place to show your sassy side. Bright purple pleather trench looks too tacky? A handbag in the same style will be fantastic.

Ask someone else to go with you shopping. It's always good to have an outsiders perspective. Bring along someone who can give you well-formulated critique regarding your clothes. The image we see in the mirror isn't always how you really look!

Attitude! Attitude!

According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, the word "attitude" means "an internal position or feeling with regard to something else." Other words often used as synonyms are: "disposition, feeling, mood, opinion, sentiment, temper, tone, perspective, frame of mind, outlook, view, or morale."

If you’ve got a good one, chances are you brighten other people’s day. If you’ve got a bad one, you may be alienating colleagues at work and even your friends. And a bad one may be costing you a promotion or appointment to a new position. It’s all about attitudes.

Business Minded!

 Are You Business Minded?

Many people start businesses as a way to get away from being told what to do, only to find out that they need to tell themselves what to do. Others start businesses because they feel they can earn more by having their own practice, yet struggle with day to day operations and managing an office as well as selling work and researching prospective clients. And yet, others start businesses not because they want to be in business, but because they want to do something that they enjoy doing. They may enjoy what they do, but have a hard time paying the bills and keeping the business going.

Do Any of Those Scenarios Sound Familiar?

Whatever reason you chose to start a business is fine. I am not one to judge anyone. Something that I often hear from small business owners is that they consistently lose money and they are OK with that. This boggles my mind. You do not need to be greed-driven to be profitable. You do need to be profitable to keep the business going and to turn that business into an asset and a systemized machine.

Small Scale, Large Scale, Profitability Matters

Here is the truth, plain and simple. In order to scale your company up from a small scale to a larger scale, you need to be profitable and have measurable, objective systems in place to track how the company is doing. I have written about this a number of times, but I feel it is worth repeating.

If you can not manage small projects and be profitable, how in the world can you take on larger projects? Nothing in the process changes, just the numbers. You must conquer the small in order to get to the big.

Learn Your Strengths, Build Your Team Accordingly

Business is not a singles competition. It is a team sport. Understanding your strengths will allow you to bring in the right team members to build around you. If you are not business minded or profit oriented, find someone who is, and bring them on board to help you accomplish the mission of the company. It is extremely important for creative type people to surround themselves with the right team to ensure that the business is protected and runs smoothly. You don’t need to be an expert in everything, but you do need to have an understanding of the concepts and be able to bring in the right people to fill those positions.

NEW BEGINNINGS FASHION WATCH QUARTET 2011 FEATURING LEN NEPOMUCENO

Standing as a creative avenue, Fashion Watch Quartet continues to be the much-awaited series that continues to bring to the forefront fresh new talent through an exciting fashion event. This year, 2011, marks the revival of Fashion Watch Quartet. The much raved about fashion series is back for good, amped up and better than ever!

With a roster of homegrown and international talents, fashion forward Filipino craftsmanship rises to the surface as renowned designer Len Nepomuceno brings forth new design inspirations for the season.

LULU TAN-GAN. In the Philippine fashion scene, Lulu Tan-Gan’s name has been synonymous with KNITWEAR since 1985. In a tropical country such as the Philippines, knits were traditionally perceived as stuffy and boring. Only a keen and gutsy designer would see beyond this façade and actually create pieces for the expatriates & tourist that come to Manila & for the jet-set Filipinos that travel to cooler destinations.

JC BUENDIA.  Designer to both Presidents Arroyo and Aquino, and newly-elected President of the Fashion and Design Council of the Philippines, JC Buendia is a master of quiet, exact tailoring.

Fashion Watch 2011 is a project of the CFDP (Council of Fashion Designers of the Philippines). It will run from April to November, 2011. Each week will feature the collection of two designers in back-to-back format, who will have his/her creations unveiled to all through a fashion show held at the lobby area of the prestigious Shangri-La Makati Hotel.

The series will feature 19 of the country’s most notable designers, each showcasing a brand new collection. Each designer is exclusive to Fashion Watch Quartet; you won’t see their collections on any other fashion show series. Every designer will showcase their Holiday collection early on in the year and a Spring/Summer collection towards the latter part of the year, much like fashion timetables abroad.

Fashion Watch Quartet will also stage special shows as several internationally known ASEAN designers will be flown in to display their creations to the Filipino public.

Besides an A-list roster of designers, models, and media partners The Philippine Star, Preview, StyleBible, and StarWorld, Fashion Watch Quartet boasts of industry greats working behind-the-scenes as well, including Patrick Rosas and team as the force behind hair and makeup, Grace Molina as Project Coordinator and Director and  Manila’s Prince of Fashion himself, Inno Sotto as Creative Director .

As Fashion Watch Quartet makes its comeback, it continues to raise the bar for how today’s fashion show series should be.

Fashion Watch 2011 is presented by Olay, Makati Shangri-la Hotel, Philippine Star, Preview Magazine, Starworld and Stylebible.ph in cooperation with major sponsors BMW and Metro Pacific Investments.
