FILA and Athletes in Action Run for School Rooms

Education is indeed a right of every child. We’re all challenged to take part in solving our nation’s greater woes. Heeding to the call of the times, FILA and Athletes in Action (AIA) join forces to bring the biggest advocacy run to help raise funds for the rehabilitation of classrooms in Iligan city, which were badly hit by Typhoon Sendong back in 2011.

With 15,000 runners who have signed up to date, the Schools Run for School Rooms (SRSR) marathon will be gathering student-runners from major colleges and universities, to bring a glimmer of hope to Iligan city, where eager students have to do with makeshift classrooms as the school year starts.

Since 1911, FILA traces its roots from Biella, a province set at the foot of the Italian Alps. Unbeknownst to many, this small town brand is big on corporate social responsibility. At the recently concluded 2012 FILA Polo Cup, project “500 for 500” was launched by FILA President Butch Albert to help Typhoon Sendong victims once again by donating 500 pesos to 500 families for every purchase of Skele-Toes.

Skele-Toes is FILA’s latest line of revolutionary active footwear that is fast raising many eyebrows and causing the curious to utter #whattheheckisthat? For us at FILA, it’s simply a shoe that changes the game. Rock at the gym or at the party, Skele-Toes is just about the only shoe that fits – and Tim, Georgina, and Borgy all agree!

Not ready to rock the boat just yet? Then you’ll love FILA’s newest line of running shoes, Swerve and Flow. FILA Swerve boasts of a Dynamic Landing System through a lightweight foam at the midsole and V3 techonology inserts at the heel. This gives you the proper support that you need in every step, without compromising style and design.

FILA Flow is perfect for the outdoor dweller with its heavy duty outsole, making every shock and bump a breeze. This one will surely go with you to countless victories and finishes.

Whether you prefer a classic or a rocking pair of rubbershoes, it’s high time to give your tiresome trainers a break and take the Skele-Toes, Swerve, or Flow out for a spin. With your purchase of a pair of Skele-Toes and participation at the SRSR marathon, it’s definitely more fun to help with FILA!

Tickets and registration forms are available at SM Ticketnet outlets (https://www.smtickets.com/event/view/776).  Singlets and race bibs can be claimed at Fila Stores in Metro Manila.

KicKers: A Step into a More Stylish Direction

Wherever you’re headed, whatever you need to do, there’s always a pair of Kickers shoes that’s perfect for you.

With a brand history that dates back to 1970, Kickers is considered a popular favorite when it comes to on-trend styles matched with high quality.

Daniel Raufast came up with the idea for a free-spirited footwear brand after seeing a poster for the American musical, HAIR. Kickers tapped a younger generation who, even at that time, invented an original way of life that is in tune with their personal aspirations. Through fashion, they were also able to express their originality although one integral part of their “creative look” seemed to be missing: shoes.

Kickers was developed with the spirit of INDEPENDENCE, OPTIMISM, IMAGINATION, and ESCAPE in mind. Its name was derived from the English word, “Kick”, plus “Ker” to make it sound American then “s” was added to match it with jeans.  And just like jeans – the quintessential fashion piece of the youth in those days, Kickers wasn’t just in-fashion but it also practical and comfortable. It instantly appealed to the offspring of the swinging seventies who appreciated simple, authentic qualities of natural materials.

Kickers in the Philippines

Since it was launched in the Philippines in the ‘90s, Kickers has been more popularly known to stylish teens who wanted to be in the know on the latest shoe trends. Just like in its earlier years, Kickers continued to become a popular brand even among the Filipino youth making it an instant hit in local shores. While the brand has become a preppy favorite of sorts, it now wants to show consumers – even those who have been loyal to the brand for years, that Kickers is a full-on lifestyle shoe brand that can cater to your various lifestyle needs.

More than just the perfect school shoes, Kickers does carry a full lineup of shoe styles ranging from casual footwear to more polished styles.  Just take a look at its Spring/Summer 2011 collection which is a big departure from the usual designs that Kickers has been best known for.

Kickers Spring/Summer 2011
Usher in a brand new season with a pair of Kickers shoes from its current Spring/Summer collection. Composed of high-quality leather shoes in a bevy of styles and colors, the ladies will surely have something exciting to look forward to this season.

Whether for work, school, or leisure wear, Kickers has introduced a great lineup this season starting with the more fashion-forward Hava. Made of snakeskin leather, this colorful pair of closed flats will easily brighten even the most boring office outfit. It’s also casual enough to be worn with your weekend outfits. Next is Hanne, otherwise known as the “sexy summer shoe”, with a wedge heel and floral straps, this sandal just exudes the fun spirit of summer and is best worn with shorts or breezy summer dresses. Its wedge heel also makes legs look longer and leaner.  For trendy fashionistas, Kickers’ Holly and Hope shoes will definitely catch your fancy. In line with the brogues trend, Holly easily completes a fun, festival look while Hope is the girlier version which looks great with shorts or short skirts. Last but not the least is Hip, the most casual style in this season’s lineup of ladies shoes for Kickers. With fun prints and a cute floral detail, this fun and colorful slip-on is a no-fuss summer shoe that you’ll surely love.

With a fresh new take – and a fun collection to boot, Kickers’ current Spring/Summer collection is a true testament of how the brand continuously evolves to meet the demands of its clients, one stylish step at a time.

Walking w/o Shoes for One Day with TOMS

What maybe basic to most of the people in the world like food, shelter, clothing may be considered a luxury in some parts of the globe. Fact 1 : In many developing countries, children must walk barefoot for mile to get to school, fetch fresh wear and seek medical help. Fact  2: Hundreds of millions of children are at risk of injury from walking on rough terrain and are unable to afford medical attention to treat these wounds. Fact 3:  Children with access to education, clothing, shoes and food become healthier and happier individuals. They have a higher chance at succeeding in life and creating a positive effect in their communities.

An American traveler and entrepreneur, Blake Mycoskie, saw these realities for himself during a vacation in Argentina in 2006. Spurred to create a solution that will have a direct impact on a child’s life, ,  he created TOMS Shoes with one simple premise: With every pair you purchase, TOMS will give a pair of new shoes to a child in needed.

It became a successful endeavor and within a few months, he was able to return to Argentina with his friends, family and staff to give out the first 10,000 pairs of TOMS shoes to the children he met. From there, TOMS became more and more successful in raising awareness and has become a global brand, selling in many countries and giving out shoes in several countries, enabling children to dream of a better life.

Since May 2006, TOMS Shoes has given over 1,000,000 pairs of shoes to children in need through the support of their growing loyal and passionate clientele. To raise more awareness and support for the One for One Movement, TOMS has invited Filipinos to join the One Day Without Shoes by walking barefoot on April 5, 2011 in the Trinoma Park, Quezon City.

TOMS fans and media alike experienced briefly how life would be like without shoes.  It was an act of solidarity with compassion and a burst of energy and passion for a better world for children.

After five years in business, "One for One" model is more than just a novelty project. TOMS has expanded its line, won the 2007 People's Design Award at Cooper-Hewitt's National Design Awards, became a member of the Clinton Global Initiative, and landed shelf space in Whole Foods.

Be one with us in raising awareness about the problem.  Participate in the One for One Movement and be part of the solution.
